"The culture of peace cannot be imposed as it must be developed through a process and has to be built upon local, national and regional efforts," says Vice President Isatou Njie Saidy. She pointed out that the culture of peace can't be bought "as it is a tree with its roots deep in our land." She said these words at the Arch 22nd in Banjul as The Gambia government in collaboration with the Gambia National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM) joined the world in celebrating the International Day of Peace last weekend.

Madam Njie-Saidy stated that the culture of peace emphasizes the growing independence between people irrespective of where they live. She lauded President Jammeh's concern for peace as demonstrated in his noble efforts in resolving crises in our sub region. "This is no mean achievement as it underscores the importance of cultivating and maintaining peace," she reiterated. Peace, VP Saidy emphasized, has been a fundamental goal in the establishment of the United Nations just after the Second World War. "This proved to be vital as the promotion of peace was taken for granted," she stated. The UN did not hold meetings at the level of experts on conflicts resolution over the years but the need to give prominence to one of its most important goals was lost, she observed.

>The fact of the matter is that if the government fails to give a reason or reasons for dismissal of his cabinet members, then the reasons will be left for speculation.
>
>Also, another way of limiting public speculation is for the government to be opened to the press/media. A presidential press conference at this point in time will be very fruitful.
