<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I would like to post a follow-up question from a young woman who has been very ill and has not yet been able to join the listserv. I have looked up migraines in the archives and found some interesting posts for her, but would also like to have responses to her particular question: "How common, if at all, is gluten intolerance a trigger for migraine headaches? I have heard about abdominal migraines, however when I first experienced migraines at age 13, I had been gf for 11 years. My known migraine triggers are stress, sleep pattern changes, monthly cycle, fluorescent lights, irregular eating patterns. I am sure there are others yet undiagnosed and wonder if gluten could be among them. I did try an elimination diet, going off every possible food trigger and slowly adding one food at a time, but my migraines remained unchanged. Having spent five of the last six months in the hospital, most NPO, I have been gf since January. Now restarting eating by mouth, I have gone off specific foods (back to my celiac sprue diet of no gluten, dairy or soy, as well as other foods which the ELISA/ACT test identified as allergens), Then thirty-six hours after eating Chinese food for the first time since December 2002, I had a migraine. My mother gets migraines exactly fifteen hours after eating MSG--a problem she developed upon reaching menopause. Thus I am curious to know if there are any articles, studies, theories, or even self-diagnoses of a gluten-migraine connection?" Will send any responses on to her. Thank you very much!! *Support summarization of posts, reply to the SENDER not the Celiac List *
