<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I'm just back from Maine (had a great time!). I only ate out once, and it was great. Otherwise, we cooked at the cottage we rented east of Augusta. I brought some food with me, but bought most of our food in Augusta. I had very good food experiences overall. The one problem I had was buying hard cider. I have been drinking hard cider (Woodchuck brand) instead of beer since going GF 11/2002. I was not able to find hard cider at any food stores in Augusta. The restaurant we went to was the Lobster Pound. It has a casual atmosphere with paper placemats, etc. The tables look out over Lincolnville Beach and the water, and friendly, and a apple-cheeked wait-staff. I had the Lobster Stew (they don't use flour as a thickener) and homemade Tapioca Pudding; both were delicious. They have a wide variety of seafood, as well as a few steaks on the menu. Employees are very helpful. I called ahead to see if they had certain products, and they were very patient, kind, and helpful. They had Cascadian Farms frozen foods, rice and quinoa mixes, a wide selection of Thai Kitchen products, and a wide selection of GF flours. Their produce section is very nice. I made one stop at Harvest Time Natural Foods. They have a small selection of GF foods: some flours (no rice flour!), some GF mixes (Gluten-Free Pantry only), and pasta (no Tinkyada). They do have a full selection of Cascadian Farms frozen goods, a couple of Gillian's frozen baked goods, and a small selection of organic produce. I've updated the word doc I've begun keeping for Maine foods. I've also gotten some additional information from Paula Raleigh (Chair/Secretary of the Portland Maine Celiac/DH Support Group) concerning O'Naturals restaurant in Portland. Let me know if you'd like an updated copy of the word doc. Dawn @ the Jersey Shore *Support summarization of posts, reply to the SENDER not the Celiac List*
