<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hey,I asked this question and got the responce back that all american wines including sparkling wines are gluten free.So toast away from ____________ In Australia I have found that *some* red wines have given me a gluten reaction - but the infomraiton I have is that this may be more because of additives than gluten. However, Vintage Port is one drink I can no longer have as I get a reaction every time. Talking with wine makers here this is because they introduce alcohol to the proces of making vintage port and, unfortunately, the alcohol used is grain based and thus not GF. This can sometimes (but not always) happen with wines as well were some alcohol is introduced into the manufacturing process _______________ White Wine is best for celiacs to drink. _____________ I have heard that all US wines should be safe. (Besides sulfites bother a lot of us) _________________ wine is made out of GRAPES...so unless you have a sensitivity to grapes or sulpher (which is possible but not celiac related), you can safety drink wine anywhere, anytime, as long as you have a designated driver. ___________________ I think what you may be having trouble with is sulfites. Sometimes I cane drink a wine an be fine the other, I get so sick. I usually stick with Barenger, Suttor home, * Arbor mist. You will usually be fine with California wines. I stick with them. ___________________ I've been drinking wine since I've been diagnosed. The only problem is where the yeast is coming from. I've been looking for ingredients with many producers and none of them used wheat, barley, oats or rye based yeast. I don't know for you but personally, I just go on drinking wines coming for many places in the world including California. I would hardly suggest you to go to visit wine producers (it's quite interesting anyway) and ask them about the yeast they use. It'll probably be safer this way. __________________ The only one i know for sure that is GF is Sutterhome White Zin __________________ wine should not say it has natural flavoring. white wine is better than red. _______________ all wine is ok to my knowledge...that's pretty much the only thing i like to drink. i've never come across a bad one but i never check either...watch some wine coolers because they may have malt in them but wine should be fine ____________________ The President of our local support group here in Danbury, CT stated that domestic wines are preferred, as there are some European wines that include flour in their processing. That was the first time I had heard that, so I'm repeating his statement w/caution. Have you ever heard this? _____________________ By the way, check before you have porto wine or brandy. Both are tricky with the colours. The porto is specially tricky because it's wine in which the producer has put some alcohol before it was ready. You have to know the kind of alcohol... __________________ As I have been told, all domestic whites and California reds are GF. I have used this as a guide and have had no problems. *Support summarization of posts, reply to the SENDER not the CELIAC List*
