Ultra,
It is not necessary to have SP1 installed.You can remove MS Messenger of
WinXP Pro.Do the followings:
go to D:\WINDOWS\inf (inf is a hidden folder). Open file sysoc. In the body
of the message you will see  sentence
"msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7".Just delete the word "hide",
then save the file and restart your computer.Now you can remove MS Messenger
from Control Panel (add/remove windows components).
