I'm sure anyone who watches the news --if only now and then-- has noticed a veritable cornucopia of stories on obesity lately, especially the latest on obesity and cancer. I don't have any real wisdom to offer but I can't help but chuckle. The Establishment is still by and large blaming it on fat and as soon as you see a story on obestiy and cancer, it's followed by an ad for some new Frankenfood or yet another prescription which always includes a disclaimer which usually takes longer than the rest of the ad and always comes in that quick, hushed tone: "People who smoke should not take this medication. Side effects may include bone loss, heart attack or, in rare cases, death. Not recommended for women who may be pregnant, are thinking of becoming pregnant or want to keep their uterus handy. See your doctor if you notice pain, swelling, psychic visions, double vision or think for sure your kidney just exploded. Don't take this medication before you drive. Just stay home, let it work and hold on for dear life." Okay, not quite but not far from it, either. Do you think they'll EVER catch a clue?
