<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I received over 50 responses to my inquiry about celiacs who are constipated. This is apparently much more common than I realized. There was a wide variety of symptoms that went along with the constipation, but four prevailed: constipation, anemia, abdominal pain, and abdominal bloating. Difficulty gaining weight or weight loss was mentioned by some. Some people responded to iron therapy and treatments for the constipation, many did not. Of the four common symptoms that I listed above, my son has only three. He has never had abdominal bloating. His anemia was slight and did respond to iron therapy. Many people suggested that I have him tested. I should have mentioned that I did a couple of years ago for his symptoms and the tests were negative. So, we have tried to prevent the constipation with a proper diet, and it does help. He has never gone more than two days without a bowel movement. Many people mentioned going much longer. Knowing, however, that a negative test result is not always definitive, I reached out to you for more information. I thank you so much for all the helpful responses to my email! *Support summarization of posts, reply to the SENDER not the Celiac List*
