  Although I never got my hands on one, I seem to recall that the FirePort
40 used the same chipset as the Adaptec 2940, but with a different external
connector.  So if you can find a way to lie to XP and tell it that's what
you've got, it may work.  (The 2940 was *the* SCSI adapter just a few years
back, and so I'd be shocked if XP didn't inherit NT's built-in support for
it.)
