For instance the Indians of the Northwest coast of the United States and Canada...lived a life of almost opulent abundance. Huge salmon runs, clams, oysters, mussels...other fish. Combined with game meat and lots of berries and other foods. In fact the potlach ceremony of the Northwest is indicative of this abundance. The heads of regional tribes would get together and try to give each other as much stuff as possible. The tribe that gave the other tribe more stuff was the 'winner' so to speak. The digger indians of the great basin desert, on the other hand, lived a much more austere existence. I doubt there was any paleo group that worked harder than say a logger or a commercial fisherman.
