I did a clean install. The problem seems to have temporarily been solved by running, at the suggestion of a friend, Reg Cleaner, an excellent program which shows all program entries in the Registry. I deleted every fragment from any progams I had uninstalled(and there were many)and, fingers crossed, hopefully removed the offending remnant. I highly recommend RegCleaner by Jouni. It can be downloaded at Cnet. Doyle Hirsch [log in to unmask] > >I have one question: Did you upgrade to XP or do a >clean install?
