Whilst I am impressed with Tom Turak's use of a DOS box and
formulae to gather a directory listing into Excel there is an easier way
with a piece of "freeware."
DirPrinting from

gives you the option to paste a directory listing into Excel with all the
details going into separate columns.

Very handy - works well.
