Hi, This sounds similar to a virus I had last year. Fortunately it didn't shut me down but my hard drive was stuck in MS-DOS compatibility mode, even after reinstalling W95 preceded by a repartition and fdisk. I remember finding out about FDISK /MBR also. Here's what happened. Turns out that somehow my startup disk was infected with Black Beauty, aka NYM.b. This is a boot sector virus and I even read an MS knowledgebase article about it. Said they were the hardest to get rid of. I felt honored. 8^{} Anyway, a friend used F-Prot to clean up my startup disk; then I re-partioned, reformatted, and reinstalled from the CD. No problems. hth, Marty At 05:44 PM 6/15/02 +0200, you wrote: >drive after format and partitioning.
