>1) Why did you choose the paleo plan? DD (18 mos at the time) with severe food allergies. >2) How long have you been on a paleo diet? Started 2 years ago, but haven't been quite paleo for the last 6 months. >3) Which plan do you most closely follow Was, Neanderthin. Now, Traditional Foods (not really paleo). >4) What have been your results - health >improvements, weight loss, etc. DD stopped ripping her hair out of her head, stopped having chronic colds. Younger DD has been sick only once in her life. DH and I experienced weight loss, discovered food reactions of our own. >5) Did you have any addictions when you started >that were hard to kick; if >so, how did you do it (cold turkey or slow >withdrawal)??? Hard to say. The only thing that was hard to give up was chocolate -which I didn't, entirely, for very long. I would make smoothies with coconut milk, eggs, stevia & cocoa powder. Otherwise, we'd just make a paleo version of or alternative to the confection that we craved. >6) Are there any "paleo foods" which you exclude >from the diet because they >don't work for you? I can't eat a great deal of fat, my liver can't manage it, even when I use herbs & acupuncture to support my liver. I eat a little more carbs, a little less fat. DD can't eat a lot of foods high in salicylates (berries, especially). >7) Are there any "non-paleo foods" which you seem >to be able to handle in >small quantities while still maintaining your health >improvements, etc.? moderate dairy, peas & green beans and rices. >8) What is a typical paleo day for you? (I'm >particularly interested in >what you all have for breakfast as I don't like >eggs) DD is allergic to eggs. Breakfast was, for many months, homemade sausage patties or additive-free premade sausage links, with a small amount of maple syrup for dipping. Other items that may appear on the menu: almond milk, nut butter, fresh or dried fruit, "nut granola", smoked salmon, occasionally some hard cheese. (Sometimes pears, brie & walnuts, or pears, gorgonzola and walnuts.) Occasionally, Ezekiel bread. If you don't like the taste of plain eggs, but aren't allergic, you can make pancakes and muffins with eggs & nut flour/nut butter. It is less convenient, IME, to stick to a pure paleo diet if you can't use any eggs at all. >9) Do you take any vitamins, supplements? I take Floravital iron supplement. I think 8 years of vegetarianism has has taken a major toll on my iron & B's, and I severely dislike organ meats. (I do add NOW liver powder to ground meat foods, like meatloaf & meatballs.) >10) What about exercise? I'm a yoga teacher. (Iyengar style hatha yoga.) _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
