The Exclusive 'Grand Bal' (Great African Ball) U.S. Tour of Africa's legendary singer Youssou N'Dour and his band, the Super Etoile Band, will perform in the following cities only: New York - Grand Bal - Friday & Saturday, April 12 & 13 Atlanta - Grand Bal (First time) - Sunday, April 14 Washington DC - Concert - Tuesday April 16 Washington DC - A Xaware is being planned for Monday April 15, more details to come. We could not get a venue befitting Africa's greatest, hence no Grand Bal for DC - sorry! For the benefit of those who do not know what the 'Grand Bal' or 'Great African Ball' is all about, it is an event in which "an array of Africans from dozens of countries become N'Dour's gleeful co-stars for a night (this year, for three nights!). Their verve finds expression in an extraordinary collective spectacle, with the food, fashions and emotions of "Africa in America" mingling with other kinds of New York and Atlanta energy, and with N'Dour deftly coaxing the revelers through a musical storyland both timeless and urgent. These unhinged, five- to six-hour performances - typical of the way N'Dour plays in his Thiossane nightclub in Dakar (and of the way Africans party everywhere) - are not to be missed! Previous Grand Bals: New York - 2000 - 3700 attended Bercy, France - 2001 - 17,000 attended Latjor _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
