Believe it or not, the Uniform Fire Code, Appendix IV-B, covers Christmas Trees (for public buildings). It doesn't cover extinguishers, but I am sure the smallest Type A would be fine. They require fire retardant unless the tree is really freshly cut.


Interesting.  What does spray on fire retardant smell like?

Went up to Morris-Jumel mansion this week, 1765 country house with inventive plan, perched way high over the Harlem River.  Was struck by beautiful brass or bronze plates that someone (1930's?) had cut into the stair treads for wear.  They are beautiful, custom made items, with some sort of grit (that can't be right, in a metal, but that's what it looks like) to keep them from smoothing up.
