I think you can't avoid it, because glycogen depletion is part of
the point of these diets.  When glycogen is depleted, all tissues
must maximize their use of fat.  I have read (somewhere) that
after a while on lowcarb, the liver compensates by increasing its
ability to make and store glycogen, and this may be part of the
reason why many have trouble losing weight a second time on
lowcarb (if they went off and regained).
