Culled from The Observer Jammeh, Wade sign joint communique condemn terrorism, pledge closer bilateral ties The visiting Senegalese president, Abdoulie Wade and his host, president Jammeh on Tuesday evening signed a joint communique, marking the end of president Wade’s visit. The two leaders in the communique exchanged views on a wide range of issues including bilateral co-operation. To further develop this co-operation, the two leaders requested that a joint ministerial commission between the two countries be re-convened in Dakar in April this year. They also raised in the communique the issue of peace in Africa, especially in areas where there exist conflicts, such as our sub-region. To address these issues they both agreed to conjugate their efforts. The two heads of state agreed that inorder to find a lasting solution to the flash-points in the subregion, a consultative meeting between Senegal, The Gambia and Guinea Bissau would be held in Banjul. They therefore instructed their foreign ministers to work diligently towards this. On broader issues concerning the situation in Africa in general, the two heads of state agreed that the new partnership for African Development (NEPAD) was an essential instrument on the path to Africa’s prosperity. The issue of good governance was subsumed in NEPAD, chief of which is justice. The two leaders also underscored the need for a well functioning judiciary which would arrest and reverse the flight of investors from Africa. At the wider international level, the two presidents vehemently denounced terrorism and stated that there was no justification for it. They therefore resolved to co-operate very closely to further develop the initiative taken by president Wade to co-ordinate Africa's response to international terrorism. The joint communique ended with president Wade expressing gratitude to president Jammeh for the exceptionally warm welcome extended to him and his delation during their short sojourn in the Gambia. He extended an invitation to president Jammeh to visit Senegal. This was accepted and details to be worked out through normal diplomatic channels. The communique was signed by the two heads of states. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx <<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>> To view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html To contact the List Management, please send an e-mail to: [log in to unmask] <<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>//\\<<//\\>>
