<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> In case anyone is interested, today I had occasion to call both Comstock and Kroger's about the GF status of their pie fillings. I already knew that the Comstock REGULAR fillings are GF even though the manufacturer does not identify the thickener as cornstarch (which it is). But I had not known that the Kroger's is also made with cornstarch. Today when I went to buy a couple of cans to try out some new recipes for crunch/cobbler-types of desserts, I found that the Kroger's is cheaper (hence my desire to check it out); moreover, both products are now out in a "LITE" version. I was not prepared to assume the light version would necessarily also be GF. Hence my phone calls. In each case I was told by a Customer Service representative, who went off to consult a list, that the LITE version simply contains more fruit and less sugar (not artificial sweetener) and the same cornstarch thickener. Good news. Someone on the Listserv asked the other day whether a regular GF pancake mix could be substituted for Bisquick. I cannot give a general reply, but the substitution works fine in the popular recipe for sausage and cheese balls, which are, I believe intended for occasions as cocktail parties.
