Thank you, I was able to get the modem added. 1. The CMOS not keeping the changes sounds like the battery is still bad, or perhaps the "Clear CMOS" jumper got installed somewhere along the way of trying to troubleshoot the original problem? 2. Some modems might not be auto-detectable. You might be able to use one of the "Standard Modem" types on the list, or you might need to have a driver (disk or download) for the modem in order to install via the "Have Disk" button. (The "2F8" confirms the earlier diagnosis that this was the motherboard COM2 port conflicting with a device -- 99% chance the device was the modem.)
