Alex,

Most laptops will accept an external pointing device through a PS/2 port, thus
leaving the serial port free. Look for a mini-DIN (round 6 pin) connector and
purchase an inexpensive PS/2 mouse for it.

If not, then it may not be possible. There is no way to daisy-chain serial
devices on a PC serial port.
