It is possible that it's because of the CPU being damaged/ defective and not the motherboard! I heard that according to Microsoft, this (Windows protection error) occurs with Windows 95 OSR2 with AMD K6-2 CPUs and AMD states that it occurs on 350 mhz and higher
AMD K6-2s with them being maxed out at 550 mhz. (600 mhz and higher are AMD Athlons or Durons). This is caused by a timing loop problem in Windows 95 OSR2's opcode according to Microsoft (at it's website, Microsoft.com). Was there any signs of the CPU overheating??? This may have been caused by a overheated CPU.
