Hi listmates: I have had CD now for 4 years and also thyroiditis which has
been treated with a low dose of synthroid. My TSH, T3, T4 were never very
abnormal but my antimicrosomal antilbodies were extremely abnormal. Over the
past months, my hair has been falling out ( a significant amount) and I am as
fatigued as I was when I was first getting sick. My suspicion is that I need
a higher dose of synthroid. I am told that antibodies for thyroid disease
are 'controversial' and many endocrinologists will not treat based on these
test results or even request the tests. My reading in the medical library
has turned up some evidence that TSH, T3, and T4 are often normal for this
condition and the antibodies are the only way to tell that the thyroid is
attacking itself.

My question:

Does anyone know of any medical publications, citations, on the recommended
treatment of autoimmune thyroiditis, especially relating to the acceptance of
antibody testing and the relevance of TSH, T3, T4?

Thank you, MC
