<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Does anyone out there know if growth hormone treatments are successful on Celiacs? Our 14 year old son was diagnosed as Celiac in December, 2000, and has been on a GF diet since that time. His growth over the last year and a half has been minimal. His height now is 4'10." The growth specialist MD we've been seeing (he's the one who first raised the possibility of Celiac Disease and sent him on to a gastroenterologist to be diagnosed) is now considering starting growth hormone injections. Recent tests indicate a growth hormone deficiency, and the growth MD seems to be gearing up to start administering hormone injections on a daily basis. When I checked the archives, it seems to be questionable whether growth hormone treatments work on Celiacs. Personally, I find it difficult to believe that there are two rare, unrelated conditions both limiting his growth. I think that if his growth hormone level is low, that might be caused by the Celiac condition, and will improve after he has been on a GF diet for a longer period of time. Still, he is very eager to grow, and we kind of feel like we're running out of time. Does anyone have any personal experience, or knowledge relating to this? I'd really apreciate hearing from you.
