<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi List Members: I recently had a hysterectomy and had a terrible gluten reaction, including an outbreak of DH, after returning home 3 days after surgery -- despite all my prep in discussing my CD and DH with my doctor and the hospital dietitian. In looking back on my stay I was pretty sure I'd ingested gluten in something I'd eaten. I'd already checked out all the medications my doctor told me she'd use and found them all to be OK. The only thing I didn't check, because I was not aware she was going to use it, was a surgical adhesive used to close my incision -- a substance called Collodion, manufactured by Humco Labs in Texarkana, TX. Knowing how we CDs can't even like a stamp, I was afraid that might have been the culprit. My doctor was kind enough to get the name of the adhesive and it's manufacturer for me and I called them when I got home from the hospital. Collodion IS GF, and I highly recommend it over staples or stitches for closing an incision of this type. Hope this may help some of you.
