Good point Christiane,
If you put a device on a channel and they have different speeds, my
understanding is that it will revert to the lowest for both on that channel.
It is the general practice to have the setup as hdd-Master1, cdr-slave1
CDRW-Master2.

Try it and when you boot, see what you bios has assigned your hdd (ATA100 or
ATA33).  You will also be able to see your CDR assignment.
