Yes, butter is not Paleo per se, but my point is that this exclusion is the
byproduct of a very strict and conservative approach that does butter an
injustice.  For the reasons I stated in my posting, butter is a good-
quality, healthy fat, which also happens to be convenient in that it opens
a lot of doors at restaurants where you may otherwise be stuck with soybean
oil or worse.  Mind you, I always have organic butter (and cream) at home.

I fully agree that lactose is probably bad news (I don't handle it that
badly, but nevertheless, it's not easy on the stomach).  Although I am not
totally convinced of the undesirability of casein, I DO avoid cheese in
almost all circumstances (partly b/c of extra salt, heated fat, lack of
nutritive value, and concern over alien protein). I wonder what the view is
organic cream, cottage cheese, sour cream, whey protein, goat and farmer
cheese - are these any better?
