Ralph,  I use both Outlook Express (for me) and Eudora (for family).  I
checked my configurations in incoming mail and they are set as follows.
(Note my ISP is Mindspring:)

    Mail    -  is set as    -    pop.mindspring.com

    SMTP - is set as     -    mail.mindspring.com

This works perfectly for me.  Wish you luck setting yours up.
