Culled From The Point... One Shot dead Another Wounded By Security Forces Pa Ebrima Manneh, a native of Brufut, was reportedly shot dead by security personnel and his companion Musa Sallah also shot and injured in the early hours of Friday morning near Umarto village in the Western Division. The victims were said to have been travelling to the Kombos from Cassamance on a motor bicycle, when they were shot around 4 a.m. by securitymen, who accused them of carrying cannabis. Pa Ebrima Manneh was said to have died on the spot, while Musa Sallah was taken to RVH where he was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit. According to Musa Ceesay, the brother of Musa Sallah, he was told by his brother that there was no sign of a police checkpoint at the spot where the incident took place. "He said they were going towards Basori when they heard gun-shots coming from everywhere. Upon hearing them, the deceased who was manning the motorcycle had to reverse the gear, and all of a sudden a bullet hit him. Sallah who was sitting behind landed on the deceased," Musa explained. He said Sallah told him they fell down struggling, and eventually Ebrima Manneh died a few minutes later. "He indicated that they were approached by militarymen one of whom was said to be a whiteman. He added that they were later taken to Mandinaba before being transported to RVH," Musa pointed out. Musa Ceesay says he is worried by the condition of his brother Musa Sallah. The deceased Pa Manneh was laid to rest yesterday at Brufut. When contacted, the Brikama police station confirmed the story, and said the case was under investigation. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html You may also send subscription requests to [log in to unmask] if you have problems accessing the web interface and remember to write your full name and e-mail address. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
