<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> So many different takes on See's candy. Here are the responses. Bottem line, proceed with caution. *** This is a message I found on the Celiac support group site, in September. (You aren't the only one who wants to know!) Thank you for visiting Sees.com. Our Quality Assurance Manager advises that almost all our candies have the potential to become cross- contaminated because we use the same equipment to manufacture many of our confections. At this time there are only five (5) items offered by See's that our Quality Assurance Manager would consider gluten free: 16 oz Almond Royal tin 16 oz Toffee-ettes tin Assorted Sugar Sticks Sugar Twists See's Dark Chocolate with Almonds Candy Bar windy **** This message from Celiac Disease On-Line Support Group on Delphi.com was forwarded to you by KATGRANNY. You have to ask for it. *** No, they are not GF. Almost every variety has wheat flour as the last ingredient. Pretty sad, huh? Marci *** Their boxed chocolates unfortunately are not GF. Their individual chocolate bars were the last time I checked. I eat them both dark and light with no problem. I think the reason the boxed chocolates are not GF is that the handlers flour their hands so that they don't stick to the candy. Renee C. *** Hi Elysse, I was very glad to see your post on such an important topic! My sisters went to See's to get me some consolation candy after my diagnosis in early September. Every chocolate has a full disclosure statement. Every single one ended, "May contain a trace of wheat." So, I didn't get my consolation candy! However, I have thought about it since and wonder if that is more of a cover-yourself disclosure that there may possibly be cross-contamination, but it's not an ingredient. I haven't called them up to ask for more info. Maybe you will, or someone else will have! Another celiac (diagnosed 10 years) told me she eats See's without problems. I will be very interested to see what you find out! This is the stuff that matters! Helen *** If you call See's 800 number, or go into a store you can find an ingredients list. I studied it when first diagnosed, but was still afraid of vanilla and other uncertain ingredients. The man in the store in SFO was very helpful and talked to some other office with more information. I hesitated for 2 years, but recently tried the dark chocolate caramels after reading the ingredients list again. I feel that most are safe, but dont have documentary proof. Call them and see what you can find out. Anne in Texas *** Oh yes! Nearly all of them are gf! When my son was diagnosed 2 years ago, that was one of my 1st questions. I think if you call them directly, they will tell you which ones aren't ok...but, majority are fine! Nuts and chews...peanut brittle...yummy! Chris in Southern Cal *** Elysse R.
