<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi, All! Thanks to everyone who has responded with suggestions on how to get Atlanta gastroenterologist Dr. Cynthia Rudert on Oprah. Taking one of those suggestions, I passed on the name of Chris VanLokeren to Dr. Rudert. The following e-mail is one that Dr. Rudert sent to him. Just thought you might want to read what she has to say. Christie Schroeter in TX Dear Mr. VanLokeren: I have been contacted by Christie Schroeter, a member of the Celiac community, and was informed that your sister is one of the producers of "Oprah". I am a Board Certified Gastroenterologist and founder of the Atlanta Women's Medical Alliance. I have a specific interest in Celiac Disease and have one of the largest practices devoted to screening and treating individuals with this commonly missed disorder. I recently returned from the International Celiac meetings in Baltimore. I learned some exciting new information. I believe Ms. Oprah Winfrey and her show would be a perfect format to discuss the most common genetic illness facing Americans. Celiac Disease is thought to affect one in every 120 Americans based upon a recent multi-center blood screening study that analyzed more than 10,000 individuals. Celiac Disease tends to be misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome, spastic colon or a variety of other gastrointestinal disorders. It is commonly associated with fatigue and may be associated with a myriad of other autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, thyroid disease, arthritis and fibromyalgia. Specific blood testing is available. I would love to discuss this with you and if you would like I would be glad to provide you with educational information. I have spoken with two TV healthcare reporters recently and segments on Celiac Disease were broadcast in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Sincerely, Cynthia S. Rudert, MD, FACP Medical Director, Gluten Sensitive Support Group of Atlanta Medical Advisor, Celiac Disease Foundation Medical Advisor, Gluten Intolerance Group of North America Founding Member, Celiac Standardization Group 2500 Hospital Boulevard, Suite 210 Roswell, Georgia 30076 (770) 475-0903
