Hello, hope someone can help, 'cos I'm desperate! Problem: Modem not responding under Win2k. Story: I dual boot Win2k and 98SE on seperate partitions. Modem is a USR 56K Message modem (recognised as Sportster V90 PnP) The modem works fine currently for 98, and used to work fine for 2k. Now however, during modem initialisation for dialing, I get a 'no response rec'd from modem' error part way through. Normally the first command works, then subsequent commands fail, but it varies. If I uninstall the modem and reboot, it is detected during the startup. If I then do a diagnostics, the modem responds correctly However, I cannot dial out (DUN, Hyperterm or SUPERVOC) If I 'rescan hardware' from the device manager, it claims that the modem was unplugged. I am assuming that something has grabbed the 'port'* but cannot find out what. Now, at some time prior to the failure, I installed Modem Wizard, which didn't work, and the uninstall locked up at 100% complete. This may (or not) be a coincidence. I'm pretty sure the modem worked post installation, but one of the executions/optimisations may have caused the problem. I have tried the system file checker, and re-installing 2k. (which leads to a simpler question which I will put at the end). I cannot see any likely services to be causeing the problem. I haven't touched the hardware, or changed anything, and of course it still works fine in 98. The TR light Never lights up when booting 2k, but still does for 98 I'm completely stumped. Any ideas? John Townsend PS The simple(r) question; When I initially tried to re-install 2k, I did it from the CD autostart rather than running winnt. However, during the file copy phase it kept looking for uncompressed files, eg winnt5inf.cab rather than .ca_ This caused no end of fun until I restarted with a dos floppy. Any ideas what casues this, and how to fix it ? * this is the best result I have been able to come up with in six days wall time searching the internet etc ================Log file================================ 10-18-2000 09:16:05.093 - File: C:\WINNT\System32\unimdm.tsp, Version 5.0.2175 - Retail 10-18-2000 09:16:05.093 - File: C:\WINNT\System32\unimdmat.dll, Version 5.0.2134 - Retail 10-18-2000 09:16:05.093 - File: C:\WINNT\System32\uniplat.dll, Version 5.0.2151 - Retail 10-18-2000 09:16:05.113 - File: C:\WINNT\System32\drivers\modem.sys, Version 5.0.2134 - Retail 10-18-2000 09:16:05.113 - File: C:\WINNT\System32\modemui.dll, Version 5.0.2146 - Retail 10-18-2000 09:16:05.113 - Modem type: Sportster MessagePlus V.90 PnP 10-18-2000 09:16:05.113 - Modem inf path: mdmusrg.inf 10-18-2000 09:16:05.113 - Modem inf section: Modem6 10-18-2000 09:16:05.163 - 115200,8,N,1, ctsfl=1, rtsctl=2 10-18-2000 09:16:05.163 - Initializing modem. 10-18-2000 09:16:05.173 - Send: ATE0Q0V1<cr> 10-18-2000 09:16:05.173 - Recv: ATE0Q0V1<cr> 10-18-2000 09:16:05.173 - Command Echo 10-18-2000 09:16:05.293 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 10-18-2000 09:16:05.293 - Interpreted response: OK 10-18-2000 09:16:05.303 - Send: AT &F E1 V1 &A3 &B1 &D2 &S0 &C1 S0=0<cr> 10-18-2000 09:16:07.306 - Timed out waiting for response from modem 10-18-2000 09:16:07.306 - The modem failed to respond to the initialization command, Retrying one more time 10-18-2000 09:16:07.306 - 115200,8,N,1, ctsfl=1, rtsctl=2 10-18-2000 09:16:07.316 - Send: ATE0Q0V1<cr> 10-18-2000 09:16:09.319 - Timed out waiting for response from modem 10-18-2000 09:16:09.319 - The modem failed to respond to the initialization command, Retrying one more time 10-18-2000 09:16:09.319 - 115200,8,N,1, ctsfl=1, rtsctl=2 10-18-2000 09:16:09.329 - Send: ATE0Q0V1<cr> 10-18-2000 09:16:11.332 - Timed out waiting for response from modem 10-18-2000 09:16:11.352 - Session Statistics: 10-18-2000 09:16:11.352 - Reads : 15 bytes 10-18-2000 09:16:11.352 - Writes: 64 bytes PCSOFT maintains many useful files for download visit our download web page at: http://nospin.com/pc/files.html
