<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> The Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group invites you to join us at the second annual "A Race for the Cure," sponsored by the John J. Kelly Celiac Foundation. The event will be held October 19th, 2000 - 7:00 p.m, at the VIP Country Club, New Rochelle, New York. John J. Kelly was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in his 40's, shortly before he died in 1998 of esophageal cancer. Patrick Kelly, Cathy McCarthy and their family founded the John J. Kelly Celiac Foundation in order to perpetuate their brother's memory and to help people with Celiac Disease. They felt that John's death may have been prevented if he had been diagnosed earlier with Celiac Disease. Peter Green, M.D., who recognized John's symptoms and made the diagnosis, states that "Celiac Disease is thought to be a predisposing factor in the development of esophageal cancer." Last year's "Race for a Cure" was attended by over 300 people, and was a delightful evening as well as a huge success in raising funds for the Celiac Disease Research Fund at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. "Race for a Cure" will be held at the beautiful VIP Club, 600 Davenport Avenue, New Rochelle, NY, located right on scenic Long Island Sound. While the purpose of the fundraiser is serious, the evening will be fun for everyone. There will be actual horse races for viewing on large screens, and favorite horses to bet on. A buffet dinner that will include a great selection of gluten-free food will be served, and there will also be an impressive list of raffled prizes to be won. Proceeds of the "Race for a Cure" fundraising event will again be donated to the Celiac Disease Research Fund at Columbia University to support research efforts and to help establish a Celiac Disease Center. The Kelly family, hoping to encourage a large attendance, has kept the price of the event reasonable at $50 per person, which includes the dinner. Advance reservations are necessary, and can be made by sending a check payable to the John J. Kelly Celiac Foundation, c/o Keep Insurance, 303 South Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591. (914) 524-9500. Please include your name, address, phone number, and number of people attending. For further information, please contact the John J. Kelly Celiac Foundation or email Sue Goldstein, [log in to unmask]
