No Volume Control on task bar.  "Start
Button"-"Programs"-"Accessories"-"Multimedia"-no Volume Controls. Under
"Add/Remove Programs Properties, Windows Setup, Multimedia", only
"Multimedia Sound Schemes and Sample Sounds" unchecked. Win98se.

Does mobo AND sound card need to have this function? Mic is plugged into
sound card.

I want to get this clarified before buying a more expensive, amplified
microphone, as Doug Simmons suggested.
