Hello Demeitri, I wouldn't say that 40 deg. Celsius is overheating for a CPU... it's on the warm side, but far from overheating. If you would like the CPU to run cooler, you can try opening up the case, and cleaning out the heatsinks of the CPU and, while you're at it, the rest of the computer. A little compressed air works wonders inside a PC - maybe just do it outside because it's very dusty, if you haven't cleaned much. This is an often unmentioned maintenance that should be done regularly (every 6 months. or so). A friend of mine had his Pentium III's temperature drop from 50 to 35 Celsius after performing this housekeeping task. Another way to keep the CPU running cooler is to get yourself a CPU cooling software - such as Rain or Waterfall. These programs do not decrease the computer's performance - but they do keep the CPU cooler when the computer is idle. By default, when the computer is idle, the entire CPU is still running - BUT, if you have a CPU cooling software, it commands certain parts of the CPU to shutdown during idle, which reduces the heat. Very effective if you do not do CPU intensive operations constantly, like gaming or graphics. On my own Pentium III 800, it dropped the idle temperature from 41 to about 35 degrees Celsius. And, if you plan to overclock or you're just worried about the heat, you can buy a super-deluxe replacement CPU fan from online sites such as www.3dfxcool.com and www.tennmax.com . The OEM fan is pretty wimpy compared to these monsters. Also, you may look into better case cooling - where will the heat from the CPU go if the air inside the case is even hotter? I wish you good luck, and you and your computer stay cool (pun intended). :) - Hawk166_PWR (Michael Soto) [log in to unmask] On Sat, 2 Sep 2000 15:57:02 -0400 Demetri Kolokotronis <[log in to unmask]> writes: > My computer temperature increases for unknown reason 40 degrees C > during > operation.
