Required qualifications for the position include an EdD or PhD (before September 16, 2001) from an accredited institution in an appropriate technical discipline and a demonstrable proficiency in 3D modern parametric computer design tools such as Pro Engineer or Ideas or CATIA. Preferred qualifications include demonstrable proficiency in 3D Studio Max or a similar program, or the CAM component of parametric modeling, or successful prior teaching experience, or expertise in NAIT accreditation. A desirable qualification is demonstrated experience working with a diverse student body and a diverse staff. Promotion and tenure decisions at Western Washington University are based upon teaching effectiveness, scholarly activity, and service activity. The successful candidate will share the responsibilities for the development of the Industrial Technology program and teach undergraduate courses in Industrial Technology. Primary teaching areas include modern parametric engineering design tools including: Engineering Graphics I and II, Advanced CAD Applications, CAD Customization and Programming, and CAD Animation. Additional responsibilities will include: advising students, professional interaction with colleagues, industry and the University community, NAIT accreditation, participation in program development, student clubs, and in professional development activities. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the teaching of the department's shared basic courses and in department and University developmental activities. Part of Western's College of Arts and Sciences, the Engineering Technology Department offers six distinct academic programs: Electronics Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Plastics Engineering Technology, Technology Education, Industrial Design, and Industrial Technology with 14 full-time faculty, 5 part-time faculty and 5 staff members. The department is also home to the nationally known Vehicle Research Institute (VRI). The department is housed in the Ross Engineering Technology Building (1987), serves approximately 425 majors and graduates approximately 100 students per year.
