<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Because so many celiacs have had problems assimilating and may have osteoporosis, and because I've seen so many questions about osteoporosis and Fosamax on the list, I thought I'd send this along from the Sept issue of "Consumer Reports On Health." A recent double-blind study funded by the drug maker Merck shows that one 70 mg pill of alendronate (which is what Fosamax is) once a week worked just as well as the daily 10 mg dose. And it also cut way back on the problems with esophageal and upper GI side effects. So less problems with the acid reflux and stuff. The old way demanded that you get up early, take a 10 mg pill, then don't lie back down, but stay upright so there is less damage to the esophagus upper GI tract. This regimen was a nuisance, but the new way works better and you only have to do it once a week. I hope this is of interest to some of you. -vance
