The V.90 standard depends on the fact that the ISP end (the modem you are dialing) has a pure digital connection to the phone line. The elimination of one analog to digital conversion makes true 56K (uncompressed) possible (note that due to FCC regulations, the actual speed is 53K max in the US). On a V.90 modem, upload speeds are 28.8K max because you (the user) do not have a digital connection to the telco. -- Russ Poffenberger Engineering Specialist Schlumberger Technologies ATE DOMAIN: [log in to unmask] 150 Baytech Drive San Jose, Ca. 95134 Voice: (408)586-6718 FAX: (408)586-4675 PCBUILD's List Owner's: Bob Wright<[log in to unmask]> Drew Dunn<[log in to unmask]>
