Daily Observer Posted Monday, August 7, 2000 by Editor A group of youths form Bakau has disassociated itself form claims by the APRC administrative Secretary, Dr. Saja Taal that the youths of Bakau have resolved to embrace the APRC. Dr. Taal told Daily Observer Monday, July 31 that The youths of Bakau called me today to say the aspirations of the youths of Bakau are different form the aspirations of the elders. Reacting to the statement, Lamin Touray of Bakau, claimed, Dr. Taal recently pledged to give me D500 and a barrel of oil to join the APRC. Lamin said he entered into discussions with Dr. Taal purposely to know his inner political strategies and not to shift allegiance form UDP to APRC. Hassan Touray, president of the Bakau Youth association, said, Dr, Taals statement was a complete misinterpretation of the resolve of the youth of Bakau. Lamin Sey another youth leader from Bakau Sanchaba, said, The majority of the youths in Bakau have always rallied behind UDP and will remain there. He said during 1997 campaign for National Assembly elections, he rejected an offer of D15, 000 to join APRC. But he failed to say who made the offer. Kebba Jammeh, Bakau UDP constituency secretary, said Dr. Taals statement was far from the realities on the ground in Bakau.
