SOUTHFIELD -- Local Islamic groups are urging a boycott of Northland Mall to protest the fact that one of its retailers is selling gaudy stretch pants covered with verses from the Koran. The pink-and-yellow pants hang in the front of Hot Stuff 2, one of three shops in the mall owned by Detroit businessman Michael York. In a store filled with hotpants and halter tops, they might have attracted little attention -- if Muslim shoppers hadn't realized that the pants were covered with Arabic calligraphy copied from Islam's holiest book. "In the name of God, most gracious, most merciful," reads the right pants leg; the name of Allah covers the left thigh.
