possibly something running in background.  Try starting in safe mode [turn
off and on and push F8] and start windows in Safe Mode.  Then try to run
scan disk.  As an alternative push F8 start with DOS mode and run scandisk
from the C:> prompt.  See if scan disk runs this way.  If it does,  you've
got something running in the background while windows is operating that does
not show up when you use the "close program" routine.
