<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi List members, I have a 5 yr old Celiac son diagnosed just 6 months ago. My other two sons tested antibody negative thus are assumed not to have celiacs. However, my 8 year old son has been having escalating behavior problems including seemingly unprovoked outbursts, violent episodes and appears depressed at times. He also has a history of allergies (to food dyes, antibiotics, seasonal allergies) and had a severe speech delay and vision problems (weak eye muscles etc.). As a baby he also could not tolerate most formulas and had to switch to soy formula. He also had alot of diarreha as a young child. I understand that the nutritional deficits caused by celiac disease can cause neurological problems such as these and also have read that the prevalence of allergies is high among celiacs. I will be having my son evaluated by a DR.however, my primary care physician does not think it is worth doing a biopsy for Celiacs since the Antibody test was negative. In the back of my mind I keep questioning celiac since my younger son is positive. Does anyone have any insight here? Could these behavior and health issues be indicative of Celiacs even though the blood test is negative? I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Susan G.
