<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Does anyone on the list have experience with or information re: the prevalence of primary biliary cirrhosis in celiacs? I went to 'no mail' in October after having to have my gallbladder removed for chronic cholecthiasis (sp?) - no stones, but the gallbladder wasn't functioning at all. Since I was a questionable celiac to begin with (test results & biopsy were nonconclusive), we had hoped my diseased gallbladder was the problem. I have not gotten better, still experience celiac symptoms, but am wondering if PBC could be a factor...? I've found only a few references to the connection of PBC to celiac and would like to have more information to take to my GI on April 21. I am back on the gf diet, but recall that I felt only marginally better on it the first time I tried it. Any information anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated. I'm really quite confused about the connection between biliary diseases and celiac. I understand the antimitrocondial antibody (AMA) test is the best for diagnosing PBC, along with a liver biopsy - is this test expensive? As most of us realize, being celiac brings a whole different meaning to the term 'financially challenged'. Thanks...I'll summarize.
