I don't try to count them or count calories............. Most foods contain carbs, I think......so I prefer to think of pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, etc. as Starchy foods......after all, there's a reason it's called "corn starch"........................ Anyway.....the CAD recommends meat of any and all kinds and the green leafy veggies...... in about equal portions.........I can't find the book right now............. Example.......yesterday I had two leftover porkchops and a bowl of salad for breakfast...... some loquats I picked off a tree in the yard for a snack later...............tuna and salad for lunch........then back to the yard where I grabbed a tangerine off a tree for a snack.... For dinner I had two cups of salad, a bowl of collard greens, half of a potato, and three fried chicken legs.........according to the CAD I could have had a whole potato, but I wanted a bit of ice cream for dessert..............so I'm not eating Paleo in a purist way.....Ice cream is certainly not paleo........but I'm using no sugar......no honey.....no coffee creamers........no refined grain products.... no artificial sweeteners at all......but I grow something called Aztec Sweet Herb.......no calories but the leaves taste sweet.....dried and steeped in a cup along with black tea it makes the tea taste sweet.............I don't know if the taste of sweet is enough to kick off the insulin reaction even if sugar is not present........but I haven't felt a reaction................... I'm using sour cream, olive oil, or roasted sesame oil on salads......in the purist Paleo sense, none of these are paleo...........I can't afford to buy wild meats so I shop Publix.....and I don't trust the meats enough to eat them raw............so that is not very paleo either......... But I like being on this list as I learn something new every day from everyone.....
