My post described various symptoms, but was focused primarily on a 6 month long pain on the right side of my head. Here is a quick summary, and a follow-up: In five days, I got a total of 48 responses. At least 90% of the responses were from people who had experienced headaches that were greatly improved upon going GF. Some described headaches that were similar to mine, some not so similar. Most called the headaches Migraines, or "Migraine-type headaches". Of the few that had not personally experienced headaches, they presented research or examples of celiac related headache. About 25% suggested I get tested, but cautioned that I should look to find the right kind of doctor or lab. About 65% suggested that I self-test by trying the diet on a "what have you got to lose" basis. A common underlying theme in many of the responses was the feeling that most MD's, even gastros, and especially allergists, really don't understand celiac, and many don't seem to WANT to understand or accept it. Nobody was disrepectful towards the medical profession, but, well, I think you all know what I mean. I must say that my recent experiences with the modern trend toward "specialization" has been that you are typically diagnosed before you even walk in the door. Each Specialty has their own pet theory and they want to force you into their mold. They all tell you to report back to them and let them know how you are doing, but when I've tried, I got the feeling they were not listening. As one guy told me, "When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Okay, enough whining about specialists. Here is a report and follow-up question: After about 4 or 5 days of "easing" into a GF diet, I woke up with the closest thing to no headache I had experienced in nearly 7 months!! My wife and I were so excited that we began really getting serious about the diet. But alas, this morning, after two good days, the old pain is back just like before. I don't think I broke the diet, but I'm really not sure what is and what is not GF or even exactly what things I might have an intolerance to. Is there some sort of searchable database that would easily tell a new person what is GF and what is not? I've seen several lists of "Safe" and "Forbidden" foods and /or additives, but I find myself trying to read a bunch of indredients I can't remember and don't have any idea what to make of them. Help!
