<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Thanks to the 22 list members who responded to my request for information about lowering cholesteral. My first thought on being diagnosed with high cholesteral was that I needed to reduce the number of eggs I have been eating. Omelettes tend to be my lifeline when I eat out and I consume quite a few of them in the bread that my wife bakes for me using Bette Hagman's recipes. Some of the respondents recommended egg beaters and others the egg substitute produced by energy foods. Two people recommended the simple, tasty, and cost effective strategy of doubling the number of eggs in a recipe but using only the whites. Most of the people who responded suggested that eggs were an insignificant part of my problem. They recommended increasing the relative amount of "good cholesteral" in my system by eating nuts, using olive oil, using Omega3 supplements, and most of all by increasing my amount of exercise. I'm trying to exercise more. I got out of the habit during the two years preceeding my diagnosis when I was simply too tired. I was rather surprised to read the suggestions that I lose weight. I was seriously underweight in the years prior to my diagnosis and still think of myself that way but that idea is simply no longer in keeping with the facts. Some of the people who responded suggested garlic tablets, folic acid, niacin, flax seed oil, and cod liver oil. One useful suggestion for decreasing my intake of fats and fatty acids was to discontinue cooking with oil and substitute a mixture of equal parts of olive oil and either applesauce or plain yogurt. Another way to reduce my intake of saturated fat is is to use the "Promise" spreads which are gluten free. Thanks for the help and support list mates. God bless you and have a great day. Paul Colligan
