According to the US State Department's spokesman, James Rubin, this "testifies to the buoyancy of the Senegalese democracy and people, as well as Senegal's leadership in Africa. The US has congratulated Wade on his hard-fought victory while expressing "its readiness to co-operate with him and his government to continue the privileged partnership between the United States and Senegal."
