You didn't say if the hard drives were new...  Sometimes after a couple
of years, they will not start up fast enough if the BIOS is set to "Fast Post",
"Quick Power ON Self Test" or a similar BIOS Features Setup setting.
The added power drain of a high speed CD-ROM "might" have tipped the
scales against you. (On both computers...)
I like the added security of a full POST Self Test.     Rick Glazier
