My dear Matarr, Before making my comments on Dr Saine's Position Paper, I have read and reread it umpteen times and after a diligent and objective study, I came to the conclusion that this is really an effort worth following to save our beloved country from the devastation that it is been led to. I do not attempt to coerce anybody to accept it. We are all free to choose but denouncing a proposal without giving a constructive alternative is merely condoning the wrongs the proposal is meant to amend. You wrote, ". when such a move is motivated by the selfish ends, as in the case of Saine's initiatives.", I beg to disagree. I do not perceive any "selfish end" on the part of the author. I am quite aware of the fact that there are Gambians, like you, whose preference is more for Jammeh than for the nation. This is not a question of choosing between Jammeh and Jawara, (remember! the latter is the creator of the former,) but an undying search for a peaceful and reconciliatory solution to prevent the Gambia from going the ways of Liberia or Sierra Leone. I find it somewhat incomprehensible for a "Staunch supporter of Jawara" as some of your kind call Dr Saine, to embark on such a task. You wrote, ".people have a right and an obligation to question the move." I agree with you 100%. For I am great believer in the scholarly words of Frantz Fanon that: 'side by side with normal people who behave naturally in accordance with human psychology, there are others who behave pathologically in accordance with inhuman psychology'. My main contention is the blindness with which some of you question what you call "Dr Saine's initiatives". You wrote, "We have AMPLE EVIDENCE TO TELL YOU WHY THIS IS OUR POSITION, AND WE WILL LET THE CAT OUT IN TIME." Well, I have no other option but to wait for THE CAT and THE TIME. Prince Coker PS Please note that I sent a copy this message to some of your friends who are glutting my INBOX with their rubbish. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
