Access to Science and Math the EASI Way: (internet workshop)

EASI has its second NSF grant to help teachers, administrators and other
staff prepare to help students with disabilities succeed in studying
math and science.  Waiving such requirements does not do them a service;
it gives them another disadvantage to their success in school and work.
Educators and researchers are busily working to reduce the barriers to
learning science and math.  Some of this work can be seen on the web at
www.rit.edu/~easi under both the links to science and math and the link
to K-12 resources.  The Dec. 97 issue of EASI's electronic journal,
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND DISABILITIES did focus on new exciting
break-throughs in this field.  The journal is on the EASI web or by

The email-delivered workshop, EASI-SEM, starting January 19 will lead
participants step-by-step through the most recent information on access
technologies and strategies.  The course focuses on three main issues
that have historically made it difficult for individuals with
disabilities to study or work in the technical fields: Attitudinal
Barriers by Faculty and Employers; Laboratory Access Barriers;
Difficulties Using Scientific and Mathematical Notation and Graphics.
The course also discusses the basic issues for K-12 students in the math
and science fields and talks about educational transitions.  The fee is
