That's "ketone breath," and it means that ketones are being
dumped out of the body in that way.  It also probably means that
she isn't drinking enough water.  The more water she drinks, the
more the ketones will tend to exit via the urine.

Sort of a fruity smell, like apples and nail polish remover,
right?
